    Reflex Apology

    Apologising before fault has been established. In revenue communication, this appears as 'sorry to chase' on overdue invoices, 'I hope this isn't too much' on quotes, and 'I hate to bring this up' on scope boundaries. Each instance signals that your position is negotiable.

  2. 02

    Negative Framing

    Front-loading doubt before stating a price or position. Telling the client what might be a problem before telling them what you are offering. The framing reaches the client before the number does.

  3. 03

    Hedging

    Qualifying rates, timelines, and positions with language that signals uncertainty. 'Roughly around', 'I think it would probably be', 'approximately'. Provisional language creates provisional rates.

Six Revenue Communication Contexts

Collect. Convert. Expand.

The programme addresses six revenue communication contexts organised around three commercial moments.

Collect. If you have sent an invoice and are avoiding following up because you don’t know how to do it without sounding desperate — or if a client is consistently receiving more than they are paying for because you haven’t found the words to enforce a scope boundary — this is the Collect problem. Revenue already earned. Language that signals it is optional.

Convert. If your proposals are going quiet, or clients are negotiating your prices down in the first response, or you are discounting before anyone has asked you to — this is the Convert problem. Revenue in conversation. Language that opens the negotiation before the other party has said a word.

Expand. If you have not raised your rates in two years, or you are doing work for established clients at prices that no longer reflect the value of the relationship, or you know the number you should be charging and cannot make yourself state it — this is the Expand problem. Revenue available from relationships that already exist. Language that has been deferring the ask.

This calculator is an opportunity cost analysis.
